Row4aCure needs your help to get the word out. My name is Jacob Beckley, I am committed to jumping out of my comfort zone to bring awareness and raise money for Lurie Children’s of Chicago. Neuroblastoma is the deadliest childhood cancer, and one of the most underfunded cancers. There can be hope, focussing on this aggressive cancer can lead to breakthroughs in less aggressive forms of cancer. One child loses their battle to Neuroblastoma every 16 hours!

I am not an athlete nor a rower, I’m just a normal guy with the willingness to do something remarkable to raise awareness. I have been training for months working towards this goal. I am pushing myself beyond my limits to ensure that I succeed and I reach my goals.

When I woke up one morning with this thought in my head, I had no idea what it really meant, I just knew that I wanted to do something different. Looking back, I wish I would have just thought about running a marathon… Now that’s easy!

I have been building my own boat for the past 2 weeks and am about one week away from completion, as of August 11th. You can view photos of the build in the gallery above.

Today marks the start of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. It also marks the countdown to a major undertaking by a west suburban man bringing attention to one of the most aggressive forms. In 29 days Jake Beckley will set off on a 65 mile solo rowing adventure across Lake Michigan in his own homemade boat. The magnitude matches the meaning behind Jake’s quest – to raise money and awareness for neuroblastoma – the most aggressive and one of the most…

Chicago’s Jacob Beckley will row 65 miles from Benton Harbor, Mich. to Chicago on Sept. 30. In less than two years time, Jacob Beckley went from being a self-described “couch potato” to an avid fitness freak ready to embark on a journey across Lake Michigan for a good cause.
